Keeping your Camalots clean and in optimal condition is important since they may be the only thing between you and the deck. So it’s a good idea to periodically clean your Camalots with a mixture of warm water and mild detergent. Swish the cam head in this solution while working the trigger bar and keeping the cam sling dry. (A stiff bristled brush will help clean around the springs and inside the cam lobes.) Don’t use corrosive substances like acetone or petroleum-based solvents that can cause irreparable damage to webbing and plastic. Rinse in clean, warm water, shake off excess water and dry at room temperature. Once dry, apply your favorite graphite- or silicone-based lubricant with a long stem applicator. Spray in and around the head of each camming device, being careful to NOT get lubricant on the cam lobes themselves. Make sure to wipe off any excess lubricant. Avoid using heavy viscosity oils or greases that attract dirt. Repeat the above steps as often as necessary.
